Cancer survivor raises funds for new DVD players Posted: 08 Feb 2011 05:49 AM PST Led by cancer survivor Joe Signorelli, a group calling itself The Friends of St. Peregrine is raising funds to buy portable DVD players for all 20 chemotherapy infusion stations at Beebe Medical Center's Tunnell Cancer Center. The group is named after the patron saint of cancer victims. Three to five hours per visit is the average amount of time a patient spends in the cancer center undergoing chemotherapy treatment. Often, there is not much else to do besides sit and think or read. "Sometimes, you would rather not think too much when you're receiving chemotherapy," said Signorelli, who received his cancer treatment at Tunnell. The group has a fundraising goal of $5,000, which includes the cost of a DVD library. Each patient would be provided with a headset so other patients would not be disturbed, and a large DVD library would ensure patients have a variety of movies to choose from. For more information or to make a contribution, contact Jess Gordon, development officer at Beebe Medical Foundation, at 302-644-2951, Ext. 16 or email jesgordon@bbmc.org.
