TAIPEI, Nov 1 - Taiwan's top chip designer Mediatek Inc <2454.TW> said on Monday it expects fourth quarter sales to fall 15-20 percent from the third quarter amid weaker tech demand that had pulled the firm's third quarter earnings lower.

Mediatek, which supplies chips for DVD players, mobile phones and TVs, also expects its gross profit margin to be at about 50 percent in the last quarter of 2010, President Hsieh Ching-jiang told a teleconference.

That was lower than the third quarter's 52.2 percent.

The forecasts came after the Taipei stock market closed on Monday. Mediatek shares rose 2.21 percent, outpacing the main TAIEX's <.TWII> 1.12 percent gain.
