River Valley Residents Encouraged to File Damages After Power Surge

Some Sebastian County residents suffered expensive damage to their property after a strong power surge Saturday, now they're wondering who will pay for it.

Some homeowners say they lost thousands of dollars in electronics during the power outages including televisions, VCR/DVD players, and even stereos. A representative with Southwestern Electric Power Company says if people suffered property damage, they need to call the customer service line and file a claim.

SWEPCO says they handle each claim on a case to case basis and investigate the complaints. "If there are cases where it's determined that a claim should be paid, it will be, but we've got to look at the circumstances in each individual case to see if that should be the case," said Peter Main, a SWEPCO spokesperson.

SWEPCO says once people file a complaint about property damage, expect a call back in about five days. The entire process could take between two and three weeks.

If you are a Southwestern Electric Power Company customer and you need to ask questions about electrical damage to your home or personal property call their 24-hour customer service line at 1-888-216-3523.

Or visit their website, www.swepco.com.
